Samir K. Gupta, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine, IU School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases - With the increasing complexity of conducting human subjects research in today’s environment, having experienced and proactive support in data management is absolutely key. I feel fortunate to be working with the consummate professionals in Indiana University Department of Biostatistics data management group. They have provided all the needed resources and assistance in facilitating my ongoing federally-funded and industry-funded clinical trials. From the data managers, to the application developers, to the IT systems personnel, I have found eager and collegial collaborators who have all helped make my research program a success. The data management group has provided expertise in web development for online data entry and as such has made it easier for my team to work quickly and efficiently. I have found the data management group to be very easy to work with to customize and update programs ‘on the fly’ as needs and circumstances change. They have also made key improvements in our research protocols, and as a result, have improved the research’s final products. In addition, they have provided me continuous updates on their progress in all phases of my clinical research enterprise. In total, I never have to worry about data management here at IU; I know this aspect of my work is in great and safe hands.
J. Dennis Fortenberry, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, IU School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Adolescent Medicine - Over nearly 20 years, the Department of Biostatistics data management group has been an integral part of both large and small research projects. We have worked collaboratively from early stages of project conceptualization, through grant application, project implementation, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. I’ve always found the staff responsive and capable, innovative, and willing to engage many, many challenges.
Kathleen Hanna, PhD, Professor, IU School of Nursing, Department of Family Health - I have worked with the Department of Biostatistics for over 5 years. Personnel that I have worked with have been web application developers, data managers, and statisticians. Their support and effort have been a valuable contribution toward meeting the goals of my NIH funded research project.
Kara Wools-Kaloustian, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, IU School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases - I am the Principal Investigator for a research consortium that merges data from 7 clinics and 2 multi-clinic programs in East Africa in order to assess the impact of antiretroviral roll out to the region. The datasets received from the sites encompass complex clinical data which are not comparable to the pristine datasets obtained in prospective clinical trials. As such these datasets require extensive cleaning prior to use. In addition, extensive mapping of data elements between the data received from each clinical site is necessary in order to appropriately merge and use the data. The data management services that we have received from the Department of Biostatistics data management group have been exceptional. The data managers are knowledgeable, willing to learn about clinical care in order to provide more informed input into the process, and exceptionally diligent in ensuring that the data is up to research standards. I would highly recommend their services to other research groups.
Mary de Groot, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine, IU School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology - The Data Management group of the IU School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics provides superb consultation, development, and support for researchers and grant-funded clinical trials. I am the Principal Investigator of a multi-site, multi-state clinical trial for which a team in the Data Management group created a customized web-based tracking system and a data collection system using REDCap. My experience in working with the team was terrific. I have been very impressed by their professionalism, creativity, the wide variety of expertise available to bring to the project and the outstanding coordination and integration of various sub disciplines to achieve timely and well-crafted deliverables. I highly recommend them!
Susan E. Clare, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Surgery, IU School of Medicine, Department of Surgery - The Komen Tissue Bank has received excellent service and support of its web application server. In July of 2012 the Super Bowl Host Committee hosted a press conference in which they announced the creation of Indy’s Super Cure. In anticipation of the press conference and the increased traffic it would attract to our website, the IT Systems personnel in the Department of Biostatistics increased our capacity and thereby assured that there would be no disruption of service to our visitors. These professionals went above and beyond what would be reasonably expected. We can only offer superlatives when recommending this service to others.
