Methodological Specialty Areas

Pursuance of excellence in methodological research is a central mission of the Department of Biostatistics. To fulfill this mission, Biostatistics faculty members strive to maintain an active methodological research program. Over the years, Biostatistics faculty members have published innovative methodological work in both theoretical and applied statistical journals, including the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrika, Biometrics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, and Statistics in Medicine. Some of our faculty members have served on the editorial boards of top tier statistical journals. Our faculty members have also ascertained major research grants from the National Institutes of Health to support their methodological creativity. Most importantly, our statistical research is well integrated with real world clinical investigations, and much of our methodological effort has contributed to the generation of important scientific findings. With these achievements, our program has started to gain a national reputation, especially in the development of applied statistical models. Our research program is diverse and areas of faculty interest are broad ranged. Research areas of the current faculty members include design and analysis of clinical trials, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, semi-parametric and nonparametric regression, high dimensional data analysis, classification methods, causal inference and observational data analysis, functional data analysis, statistical computing, and psychometrics. Faculty publications can be found in individual faculty web pages as well as in annual archives.
